Show Notes: 020 - Writer Improv: Creating a Hero

Description: This week on Will Write For Wine... it's Writing Improv: Creating a Hero! And this podcast is one you don't want to miss because it's just that bad. We screw up every block, not just the D. We insult ferret people, Trekkies, Buffy fans and the military. We try to build a romantic suspense and fight about it. But damnit, we had fun. And hopefully, so will you! If not, don't complain. We're cranky and we've been drinking.

What are we drinking?
Lani had a 2004 Stoneleigh Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
Wine notes: This wine is a ripe, full-bodied Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that displays intense passionfruit and stone fruit aromas, with background mineral notes. The passionfruit and flinty characters are indicative of ripe Sauvignon Blanc, which the winemaker maximises with skin contact and yeast selection. The palate displays tropical fruit and passionfruit with a touch of dry grass. It is full and rounded with a succulent mouth-feel and viscosity, balanced with crisp acidity.
13.5% alcohol, and it's $12 a bottle.

Sam had a 2004 Sierra Cantabria Rioja from Spain.
Wine notes: Medium ruby-colored, it offers pleasant aromas of Asian spice, cranberry, and red currants.
13.5% alcohol. $11.

Show Notes: 014 - The Long Finish

Description: This week on Will Write For Wine...Lani and Sam try to drink non-alcoholic wine... and fail utterly! Also, stony, earthy, leathery wine... and that description is straight from the winery! We create The Best Story Ever, and we’ll probably still think so even when we sober up. Plus we take you to Vegas, write butt e-mails, and almost get arrested! Okay... maybe just those first two.

What are we drinking?
Lani had a 2006 Osprey Glen Sauvignon Blanc.
Wine notes: The Osprey Glen is a rarity, striking a balance by bringing bits of all three personalities together. Notes of mango, lemon, and peach? Sure. The zing of passionfruit? Yep. A more subtle touch of stoniness to round it out? That, too. It’s medium-bodied and soft, with a clean finish.
13.4% alcohol, and it's $13 a bottle through MyWinesDirect.com.

Sam had a 2004 Wrongo Dongo Jumilla Red wine from Spain.
Wine notes: Deep ruby/violet. Medium nose of blackberry, meat, german chocolate cake and earth. Round, rich mouth of berries, spice, leather and brown sugar.
14% alcohol. $8.

Doris in Munich for The Red Wine Diet book recommendation and for adding that we didn't really need a diet. We love you!
Listener question:
From Eileen Rendahl. Thank you, Eileen!Could you talk a little about how to build sexual tension in a story? I don't want my heroine to seem like a prude, but I don't want her to be too slutty either.

We Recommend!
Lani recommends: Bubble Shooter (internet game)

Improv Night: Wiffers, We Need You!

Okay, Wiffers - we need you! Next Thursday, we're recording another writing improv at popular request! All right... so two people requested it, and one of them was me, but still. It's so much fun. Anyway, this week, we're building a heroine, so we need your help! Please e-mail suggestions for the following to improv at willwriteforwine dot com:

Genre (Romantic Suspense? Romantic Comedy? What kind of story world are we creating for our girl?)
Name (Elrod has already been used. Come up with something new. And, if possible, feminine.)
Location (Where does she live? It's a big deal. Trust us.)

Send your suggestions to improv at willwriteforwine dot com and be entered to win our fabulous prizes for June:

We need the suggestions no later than Thursday, June 14th, but the earlier the better. We don't want poor Catie scrambling at the last minute! If not for us, if not for the prizes, do it for Catie!

What are we drinking?
Lani had 2005 Three Thieves Circle K Ranch Pinot Noir.

Wine notes: "Three Thieves Circle K Ranch Pinot Noir is brilliant red with classic varietal aromas of cherries, red berries, and violets. In the mouth, the wine has spicy, sweet red cherries with creamy vanilla notes." $10.

Sam had 2004 Malbec from Finca El Retiro Vineyards in Argentina. From wonderful Laura Fitzgerald.
Wine notes: The wine has a deep color and ripe, blackcurranty (their writer, not us) fruit on the nose. On the palate, it is full-bodied, soft and accessible with ripe tannins.

Shout-out to:

Sam’s Sears delivery guys for coming to her laundry rescue.
Catherine Wade for help with the improv!

Listener question was from Suemarie from Central New York:
So many writers tell me that I need an agent because she/he will get me a better deal and a bigger first bookrun. Ok. I admit I'm clueless about run size. How about a little information on book runs. Say I sold to story to Brava. Would having an agent mean I'll have a bigger book run?
