What are we drinking?

Lani had a 2004 Stoneleigh Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand.
Wine notes: This wine is a ripe, full-bodied Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc that displays intense passionfruit and stone fruit aromas, with background mineral notes. The passionfruit and flinty characters are indicative of ripe Sauvignon Blanc, which the winemaker maximises with skin contact and yeast selection. The palate displays tropical fruit and passionfruit with a touch of dry grass. It is full and rounded with a succulent mouth-feel and viscosity, balanced with crisp acidity.
13.5% alcohol, and it's $12 a bottle.

Sam had a 2004 Sierra Cantabria Rioja from Spain.
Wine notes: Medium ruby-colored, it offers pleasant aromas of Asian spice, cranberry, and red currants.
13.5% alcohol. $11.

We're back! This week, Sam and Lani discuss jumping the shark - how to do it, how not to do it, and... well... what it is. For those of you who are worried, it doesn't involve any actual sharks. We may drink a lot of wine, but we're not crazy. We manage to not answer the question of the week while encouraging cats with bad grammar. Also, we go long. Really long. But that's because we're making up for all those weeks we missed, and not because we can't shut up. Right? Riiiiiiiggggggghhhhhht.

What are we drinking?

Sam had a Mondoro Asti from Italy. $14 a bottle. 7.5% alcohol.
Wine notes: Fine and constant, light straw yellow delicately sweet with right balance of acidity. Rich, intense, aromatic, fruity, with traces of acacia and orange blossoms, and scent of wild mountain honey..

If you've ever wondered how writers plot or how books get to the shelves or what the heck a print run is, here's the place to ask.

Each month, all eligible entries will go into a wine bucket. At the end of the month, we'll pull a name out of the bucket to win a fabulous prize!

From Kim Hoelzi: Right now I'm in the process of editing my manuscript. How will I know when it's "done"? I keep picking at it making it better and I wondered if I'm simply avoiding sending it in. But on the other hand, I don't want to send it in before it's ready. See the dilemma?

Both Lani and Sam recommend... the Cayuga Wine Trail! And additionally, Lani's adding a recommendation for Sam's Wonderful WWfW Pesto (great on fresh baked bread - yummmm!) Here's the recipe:

1 bag (or about 1 cup) of sun-dried tomatoes
1 small can (or about 1/4 cup) of black olives or kalamata olives (no pits)
4 large cloves of fresh garlic
good olive oil
crusty bread

1) Peel garlic and place in food processor
2) Add a bit of olive oil and run processor to chop up garlic
3) Add olives and run processor to chop lightly
4) Add sun-dried tomatoes and more olive oil
5) Run processor until all ingredients are chopped and mixed well (don't overprocess)
6) Add salt to taste
7) Put in a container and set aside for a few hours to combine flavors (do not refrigerate)
8) Smear on crusty bread or use with dipping oil

Due to an unfortunate wine accident, Lani and Sam will not be doing a show this week. But never fear, we’ll be in fine wine-drinkin’, writer-rockin’, screwin'-up-the-D-block form by next week.

And hey, this gives you all another week to think of some great questions or wine suggestions. Post ‘em here or email, and we’ll get them on the air pronto.
